Kilauea is erupting once more! At 4:44 a.m. Hawaii Time, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory detected a lava glow inside Halema’uma’u crater on the summit of Kilauea. Halema’uma’u crater is situated inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the southeastern facet of Hawaii (Large) Island.
Per the USGS’s update on this new eruption,
“The opening phases of eruptions are dynamic. Webcam imagery exhibits fissures on the base of Halemaʻumaʻu crater producing lava flows on the floor of the crater flooring. The exercise is confined to Halemaʻumaʻu and the hazards can be reassessed because the eruption progresses.
“HVO will proceed to watch this exercise intently and report any vital modifications in future notices.”
In recent times, this crater has been the middle of eruption exercise on and off. Previous to in the present day, Kilauea had been on a pause for precisely three months to the day.
